The
Green Party of Washington has formally endorsed independent socialist
Kshama Sawant for U.S. Congress in Washington’s 9th District. Kshama is
challenging incumbent Democrat Adam Smith, a genocidal warmonger who has
been in office for 29 years.
The
Kshama Sawant campaign met with the Green Party of Washington on July
14, 2026, to mobilize to get out the vote for the August 4th primary
election and plan mutual support.
Kshama
is the socialist who won landmark victories for working people as a
Seattle City Councilmember by building movements to fight and defeat the
billionaire class and their political servants. We need all hands on
deck in the coming weeks to turn out the vote by August 4th so that she
can advance to November’s general election for a head-to-head against
Adam Smith.
“The
Green Party of Washington has formally and proudly endorsed Kshama
Sawant for Congress in the 9th District,” announced Marc Mixon, Chair of
the Green Party of Washington, following the July 14th meeting.
In
addition, the Green Party of Washington and its local Seattle chapter
have an ambitious plan to field Green Party candidates for the 2027
Seattle City Council elections in all seven districts. Beginning in
2027, Seattle City Council elections will be conducted by ranked choice
voting.
“I’m
excited about joining the Green Party and supporting its plans in
Seattle and around the state, and I am grateful for the party’s
endorsement of my campaign for Congress,” said Kshama, whose grassroots
campaigns won multiple terms to Seattle City Council and defeated a
billionaire-funded recall effort.
In solidarity,
Justin Bare, Campaign Manager of Kshama for Congress
Marc Mixon, Green Party of Washington State Chair
