In this excellent analysis of the establishment campaign to smear UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn as an anti-Semite, it's remarkable how it's using tactics more often associated with the identitarian cultural left -- for instance, Ruth Smeeth's crybullying tactics that are reminiscent of Anita Sarkeesian or Cathy Newman. Or these points:
At the heart of the dispute between the JLM and JVL were efforts by the former to broaden the definition of anti-semitism to include “the holding of beliefs” that might be “perceived” as offensive. Corbyn supporters and others warned that the move would create “thought crimes”.and:
Jonathan Freedland, a senior columnist at the Guardian, waded in to support the JLM, arguing that the traditional definition of anti-semitism—that it was a hatred of Jews for being Jews—was too limited. Instead, he claimed, it was a mood that could be perceived only by its victims, even if there was no tangible evidence that outsiders could detect.
-- a claim reminiscent of "microaggressions" pseudoscience.
And then there's the selective speaking in the name of a minority group only when its members support a preferred narrative:
Though it is rarely mentioned, a significant proportion of those who were summarily suspended,or expelled, for anti-semitism by a Labour party bureaucracy still dominated by anti-Corbyn Blairites were Jewish or had Jewish ancestry, such as Jackie Walker, Tony Greenstein, Cyril Chilson and Glyn Secker.
In one case, a respected Israeli Jewish academic based in the UK, Moshe Machover, found himself expelled until an outcry forced party leaders to grudgingly reinstate him.
The thread connecting these high-profile cases was that all of them were vocal critics of Israel....
In reaction to the unchallenged dominance of the JLM as the voice of Jews in the Labour Party, a new breakaway group, one that was pro-Corbyn, launched at the Labour party conference last October called Jewish Voice for Labour (JVL). The new group quickly found itself tarred with claims of promoting hate speech at the conference.
All of which simply goes to show that the Right is just as susceptible to this sort of irrationalism as the Left is.
